昭和初期，当时菊地保寿堂第十三代掌门人接受当时政府的请求，恢复原始铸造用的材料“和铣”技术的研制，经过第十三代菊地正直和第十四代菊地正直，前后两代正直二十多年不间断的研制，终于研制出来。到今天，近百年来此技法一直独自保存在菊地保寿堂。这也是日本现在国宝级的铁瓶、釜的修缮工作一直在“菊地保寿堂”进行的原因所在。日本几代皇室，数次收藏“菊地保寿堂”的作品，日本茶道三大派系大都使用“菊地保寿堂”釜和铁瓶。
