For many years, the northern portion of present day Swanston Street from Victoria Parade northwards to the Cemetery, was named Madeline Street. Queensberry Street runs across the photo, with Madeline House on the south east corner and Queensberry Hotel on the south west corner. Fagan's Queensberry Hotel was upgraded to a very different structure in 1890,
