小さな底部から、肩に向けてなだらかに膨らみ、大きく開いた口を持っています。

本品は、浮造のように木脈があらわになった迫力のある姿をしていますが、両側面には上品な花文が刻まれた銅輪型の手が配してあります。

信楽の窯の中で陶片が塊まりアートピースのようになっています。

さて、お歯黒のための液を入れた小壺をお歯黒壺と呼び、越前のものが名高く、豊富な片口で知られています。茶席では花入に転用されるなどし、鉄漿壺とも呼びます。
